Algae-derived panels

MIRACLES partner CHIMAR has been working on the development of algae-derived adhesives suitable for the production of wood-based panels.

CHIMAR has tested various algae species during development of phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resins modified by the use of algae. Some of these resins have been successfully applied as binders in the production of three-layer plywood panels at laboratory scale. The panels have been tested and evaluated in accordance with current European standards, and they have been found to be suitable for either interior or exterior applications.
